HISTORY AND GOVERNMENT PAPER 1

 

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

a)      This paper consists of three sections A, B and C.

b)      Answer all the questions in SECTION A, three in SECTION B and two in section C.

c)      Answers to all the questions must be written in the answer booklet provided

d)      This paper consists of two printed pages.

e)      Candidates should check the question paper to ascertain that all the pages are printed as indicated and that no questions are missing.

f)       Answer all the questions in English.

 

SECTION A (25 MARKS)

ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS IN THIS SECTION

1. Identify one disadvantage of using anthropology as a source of information in History and Government.  (1 mark)

(b) Explain Five reasons for the failure of the Imperial British East Africa Company (IBEA Co.) in 1895?    (10 marks)

 

20. (a) State three reasons why the colonial government denied the Africans the chance to grow cash crops before1954?      (3 marks)

b. Explain six problems faced by Africans in urban centers during the colonial period in Kenya   (12 marks)

 

21. (a) Give five early political organizations formed in Kenya up to 1939.              (5 marks)

(b) Describe five roles played by Thomas Joseph Mbo’ya ¡n the development of trade union movement in Kenya.      (10 marks)

23. (a) Give five reasons Why human rights are important.    (5 marks)

b) Explain five functions of the Kenya National Commissions on Human Rights.  (10 marks)

 

24. a. Identify three requirements for one to vie for a member of the National Assembly.   (3 marks)

b) Explain six roles of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.(12 marks)
